The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the political-administrative organ of the State in charge of planning, directing and executing the foreign policy and international relations of the Republic.

Mario LUbetikin
A journalist with over 40 years of experience in international communication and development cooperation. In 2025, he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay. Before that, he served as the Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) from 2022 to 2025. He also held the position of Deputy Director-General at FAO from 2017 to 2025. From 2015 to 2020, he was the Chief of Cabinet of the FAO Director-General, and between 2014 and 2015, he served as the Director of the Corporate Communication Office at FAO. In 2012, he was a member of the United Nations Advisory Group for the International Year of Cooperatives.
Previously, he was Director-General of the Inter Press Service (IPS) News Agency, a position he held from 2002 to 2014.
